Electronic Cigarettes in Restaurants: Yes You Can!

A cigarette with dinner is nice, and back in the day it was perfectly acceptable to enjoy the two together over dinner in a restaurant. Remember when most dining digs had a section for smokers and a separate one for nonsmokers? While such a thing is virtually unheard of these days, many smokers still crave that cig over dinner. On the contrary, if you’ve switched to e-cigarettes, you know it’s not a problem to enjoy the two together, even if you are in a restaurant! As electronic cigs have become widely popular, it’s quite common to see people using them everywhere in public these days, and why not in a restaurant? No one will smell it, or be affected by the second hand smoke.
Most restaurants take no issue with e-smokers vaping in their dining areas. Even if they are unfamiliar, or their other guests are unfamiliar with e-cigs, if you kindly explain it’s just vapor, chances are there will be no problem. In the past, when most restaurants had designated “smoking” and “not smoking” areas, there would still be an essence of the tobacco smoke in the air. Smoke travels, and has a way of sticking around long after the cigarettes have been put out, so one way or another, nonsmokers had to contend with it. Now that smoking inside restaurants is pretty rare, and most often illegal, nonsmokers have gotten quite used to the clean air, and most want nothing to change! How electronic cigarettes work is simple; allowing for users to get their nicotine through vaporized liquid, for the same feeling and effect, and without inflicting harm or discomfort to those in the same proximity!

Now that electronic cigarettes have become very popular, e-smokers are actually welcome to vape quite often, because most establishments are interested in pleasing their guests. Many business owners in the restaurant industry actually promote their use because they are versatile products that allow for all guests to be happy. E-smokers are paying customers too, and if they aren’t a bother to anyone else, and their products are not dangerous, there is no reason they can’t use them liberally! So for many restaurants and bars, e-cigarette acceptance has been wonderful for keeping potential business (i.e. paying customers) in the door longer, and giving them more reason to enjoy their offerings (relaxing and spending money)!

What to Do, and What Not to Do When Vaping!

Do you need a quick little briefing on what you should and should not do when vaping? Here is a cheat sheet, a handy little 101 to make sure you use them right, and enjoy them to their full potential!

What to Do:

Read your manual! As easy as electronic cigarettes are, make sure you do exactly what the manufacturer’s manual instructs. Even if you have used other brands, don’t assume all products will work the same. You could end up missing out on important info that is beneficial.

Puff on your e-cig like you would with a cigarette! It’s made to be quite similar, and give you the same enjoyment.

Prime your e-cig every time you change the cartridge. This may take a little while to really get the hang of, but it’s pretty similar to priming a cigarette. You take a long puff, and it kicks the e-cig cartridge into gear. It preps the cartridge, and allows for a strong vapor.

If you receive a brand new battery, and it has a cartridge attached, toss it and replace it with a fresh, new one. Don’t be alarmed if it does not work; it’s just there from manufacturing.

Change your e-cigarette cartridge when it no longer produces vapor. It’s not broken; it just needs changing!

What Not to Do:

Do not tighten your cartridge too tightly when screwing it on, that will prevent it from working correctly.

Don’t wait till your battery gets very low to charge. It’s better in the long run to charge it when it’s around 50%.

Don’t leave your battery on the charger after it hits 100% power; this wears down it’s strength over time. Kinda common sense, we know, but let it be a reminder!

Do not mix Optima Cigs e-cigarettes, cartridges, and accessories with products from other companies. It could be potentially dangerous.

Do not throw your e-cig out the car window, especially while driving! Some habits for smokers die harder than others, and when you’re cruising along, enjoying your e-cig, it can be easy to forget it’s not the old fashioned kind! Many have met their demise this way!

Thinking About Smokeless Tobacco? Vapor Cigs Are Still the Better Choice

If you are a smoker, and think smokeless tobacco is the way to go if you want to go smokeless, think again. Tobacco is tobacco, however you use it, and there is no “safe” or “healthy” version of it. If you’re looking for a smokeless alternative, stick with e-cigarettes.

Some people get on the smokeless tobacco bandwagon when trying to quit smoking, hoping for a transitional product to help them ease off the cigarettes. Problem with this is, is that there is no proof that smokeless tobacco actually helps, and being such an addictive substance, it can make the transition more difficult. If this is the situation you are in, you may want to consider e-cigs as well. They are not proven to do anything for those who want to quit smoking, but they are a fantastic alternative that allows for nicotine consumption with none of the drawbacks. E-cigarette users love the convenience of being able to control their usage with different nicotine cartridges, rather than being controlled by cigarettes.

Smokeless tobacco is a whole other monster, and while smokers may have the impression that it’s safer because it produces no smoke or carbon monoxide, it is still chock full of carcinogens. It can be more addictive and even more harmful than smoking. While it most likely won’t destroy your lungs with lung cancer, it can quickly give you cancers of the mouth, tongue, face, esophagus, pancreas, and throat. It also ups your chances of fatal heart attacks and strokes. Lovely, right? It can also give you gum disease and destroy your teeth, and making your pretty face not so pretty anymore. Sure you get your nicotine fix, but is it worth it?

No! It really isn’t. Why use a product so dangerous it should be illegal? E-cigarettes offer you all the compromise you could want. You can have your nicotine, at your preferred level, in your desired flavor, without any smoke or tobacco. E-cigs also happen to be drastically less expensive, and they are much more convenient than any type of tobacco product.

E-Cigarettes VS Tobacco Cigarettes

E-cigarettes are not cessation devices, but that does not stop smokers from using them in such a way, or switching to them outright entirely. If a smoker were to be torn between the two, knowing they could have the same end result, the same pleasurable feeling while smoking, and afterwards have none of the negative effects, or longterm ills, what do you think they would choose? As e-cigs become more popular, and their presence is solidified as a serious option, smokers are choosing vapor over smoke in really high numbers. Such high numbers in fact that cigarette companies are bracing. Never before have they been faced with such dramatic anti-smoking campaigns in addition to having competition from alternatives that smokers actually embraced. They are holding on for dear life!

So with the recent bills being proposed across the country, attempting to have electronic cigarettes taxed in the same way that traditional cigarettes are, e-cig users are pretty upset. These bills run under the premise of regulating the industry, ensuring that minors are not able to purchase any nicotine products, but that is the least of the concerns to users of vapor cigarettes. It is generally difficult for those under 18 to purchase e-cigarettes, and they are certainly not marketed towards that age group. Advocates for e-cigs feel that their rights are being imposed upon, and that these products are not tobacco, they should not be considered the same. Traditional cigarettes are greatly dangerous, and e-cigarettes, despite not having FDA approval, are much safer. How electronic cigarettes work is with liquid nicotine, produce a clean vapor, and cause no combustion. They produce no smoke, and leave no tar behind. In those instances alone they are automatically healthier than traditional cigarettes.

Bills like these aim to have retailers of electronic cigarettes licensed as  Grouping e-cigarettes in the same category as cigarettes, and forcing vapor shops to purchase exclusively from tobacco companies selling e-cigarettes is simply wrong and just another way to give the business back to the failings of the tobacco industry. It also takes control away from users as well as shop owners, who have to rely on which brands they are permitted to carry. The tobacco industry has lost millions of dependent people, and therefore millions (if not billions) of dollars in sales, both to death as well as e-cigarettes; they are obviously willing to do what it takes to stay in the market. Several large e-cigarette companies have been bought out by large tobacco magnates, but that should not be a factor interfering with e-smokers’ options and rights to choose the brand of their choice.

Addressing E-Cigarette Rumors

E-cigarettes have lots of things being said about them. Rumors get spoken about everything and everyone, and it’s always a sign of popularity. There are lots of myths floating around about electric cigarettes, and new users and those who are skeptical often don’t know what to believe!

So how do you know when something is true or not? Well, you have yo be able to look deeper into the situation. What isn’t being said? Was the information spoken by a truthful resource? Does it seem more than a little “off?” One way to decipher the truth from the fiction is to do some research. While the internet is filled with more than a few odd stories, you can also find a great deal of useful info too. So hopefully, by ending up on this page, this info will do you some good to be able to have the truth behind some of the most common e-cigarette myths.

1- Electronic cigarettes are bad for you.

Truth- E-cigs are not bad at all for you. While there hasn’t been the level of testing done to appease the FDA, there has been nothing that has come out to prove this. With millions of users, and nothing but positive and great experiences, it goes without saying that they are better than tobacco cigarettes. Definitely not bad for you.

2- E-Cigs are just as dangerous as traditional cigs.

Truth- No way! They are made without tobacco or any of the many chemicals found in traditional cigarettes. They give off no smoke, so you won’t be breathing that in, and those around you will not be affected by second hand smoke. No tar is left behind, and you breath in only water vapor and nicotine. Neither of which are dangerous.

3- E-cigarettes are known to explode when they are used.

Truth- Only when things are used incorrectly. Don’t mix different products from different companies and use in ways they do not suggest in the manuals. ALWAYS follow the instructions in the manuals you get from each company. Keep your e-cigarette accessories, cartridges, and related products separate brand by brand if you use more than one. Don’t mix liquids, other batteries, and parts where not recommended. It could get dangerous.

4- E-cigs are illegal in many places in the US.

Truth- No, they aren’t. As much as the FDA has tried to restrict and control their distribution, e-cigs are entirely legal for people of the legal smoking age, which is 18 in most states, and 19 in others.

5- You can’t use e-cigs in public.

Truth- Most of the time you can. While cigarettes are banned in most public places, e0cigs are not the same and do not cause the same hazards and unwanted effects.

6- E-cigarettes don’t have nicotine in them.

7- Truth- There are e-cigs available with and without nicotine. Your choice.

7- Most brands of e-cigarettes are not good.

Truth- Can’t speak for anyone else, but Optima Cigs are excellent!

8- All e-cigs taste bad.

Truth- Not all, and definitely not our’s.

9- Electronic cigs are made to be sold to teenagers and children.

Truth- Never. And totally illegal here in the States.

10- E-cigs contain anti-freeze.

Truth- Come on! Anti-freeze kills, and if any company wants to exist, prosper, sell and promote their product without a boat-load of lawsuits, they definitely will not be infusing their e-cigs with anti-freeze!

How Safe Are Electronic Cigarettes For the Heart?

Electronic cigarettes are pretty darn safe. There are plenty of people who are saying that they ought to be avoided until significant proof comes out to declare their safety, but now that the industry is edging towards half a decade old, this kind of paranoia is really losing steam. Several studies have been released this year proving that e-cigs are safe, and do not pose danger, one specifically regarding the heart.

Since their inception, e-cigarettes have held a reputation for being a safer alternative to tobacco. They are smoke-free, they are easier to use, they do produce or leave behind tar, they contain no carcinogens, they do not contain any tobacco. There is no combustion when they’re used. They are odorless and do not offend others with second hand smoke. These reasons alone would lead a smoker to automatically feel they are healthier and safer. Tobacco smoke is a deadly culprit; take it away, replace it with harmless water vapor and what is the danger?

In April 2012, a study out of Munich, Germany was released with results that showed electronic cigarettes do not affect the heart negatively, nor do they have ill effects on the heart. Konstantinos Farsalinos, MD, of the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center in Athens, Greece, was the researcher at helm of the e-cigarette study for the European society of Cardiology. He presented the results during their yearly symposium and made positive note about e-cigarettes as a very satisfactory alternative for smokers, as they cover both parts of cigarette addiction, the craving of nicotine and the craving of the psychological components of having the cigarette in hand, puffing, inhaling, exhaling, and at the end feeling satisfied, all without smoke.

Traditional tobacco cigarettes are known to cause coronary heart disease (which is the number one cause of death in the US) and a variety of other ailments such as narrowing the arteries, peripheral vascular disease, and aortic aneurysm. These are all highly dangerous, and to an extent, preventable issues. So while smoking cigarettes is known to be related to causing them, why not avoid the issue putting yourself at risk with tobacco smoke? Don’t you want to make healthier decisions for your body when you have the choice to? Start with an electronic cigarette starter kit!

E-Cigs and Your Health

There’s a lot to be said about e-cigarettes and health. No smoke, no tar, none of the thousands of chemicals found in cigarettes. In fact, most contain just a few ingredients, which can be pronounced. They offer the smoker nicotine, in a similar method to smoking a cig, but none of the side effects and none of the dangers. Using common sense, when you weigh the options, they are far safer for the health than traditional smokes. Here is a little e-cig FAQ towards some very common questions regarding these awesome tobacco alternatives. Hope they offer some insight, and maybe clarify any confusion you may have!

Q: How do we know they are they safer than cigarettes?

A: Testing is currently being done on electronic cigarettes, and quite often studies are reported once the results become public. Recently, studies have shown that e-cigs do not harm the lungs, the heart, and do not carry toxins or carcinogens in the vapor which can cause harm. These are enormous findings, as these are the major issues with cigarettes.

Q: Are they generally safe to use?

A: Yes! Use common sense; if they were outright unsafe, do you think they would be allowed to be sold as widely and as accessibly as they are? MIllions of people currently use e-cigs, and it is predicted millions more will be using them in the years to come. In fact, it is predicted that alternative cigarettes will eventually overtake the tobacco market altogether. While all the “testing”  and approvals that some claim should be in place before people use them, use your best judgement. Millions of people are showing success, and that they have encountered no negative effects.

Q: What about additional testing?

A: It is being done by many reputable institutes and universities across the world. The potential for electronic vapor cigarettes is huge, and researchers and scientists are well aware of this. All responsible e-cigarette companies are also doing research on their own ends, just to keep things safe. No one wants to sell dangerous products, and if you want your name to be recognizable for great quality, you have no other choice.

Q: Why would I choose electronic over conventional?

A: Well, if you have the option to smoke something just as pleasureful as cigarettes, that give you the same feeling and great flavor, with none of the negatives, what would you choose? They also save money, can be smoked anywhere you want, and won’t make you smell like a stale, dingy bar.

What Are the Best Electronic Cigarettes?

Chances are, if you are reading this, you have an idea about what e-cigarettes are. But are you aware of all the different kinds there are? And if you are going to be purchasing, it is in your best interest to know about the different types and what your options are.

In the world of electronic cigs, there are two part models, three part models, single one piece disposables, and so many other configurations. Optima Cigs feature a highly advanced 2-piece construction. While no one brand will be the right match for every vapor cig smoker, our design is made to offer the most convenience and the highest performance at a very fair price. They are also made to never skimp on style, either.

The function of the 2-piece is to maximize the performance of the battery is that the atomizer, one of the key aspects to working, is built into each e-cigarette cartridge. This was designed to improve upon the more outdated three part models, in which the atomizer was continuously reused. The problem here was that the atomizers could never handle constant performing, and often broke, leaving customers highly dissatisfied. By combining it into the cartridge, the atomizer gets replaced with every cartridge, allowing for far better performance and running.

The batteries that Optima Cigs offers are also on the highest level of quality around. They are lithium ion. The tips are set with a crystal, not fake plastic, and when lit have a very classy glow. With two battery sizes, customers have the option between a longer, high capacity model, which can go for a minimum of 500-600 puffs. While the mini size is a petite, compact version that allows customers the convenience of a smaller design. It goes for about 300-350 puffs, and takes just an hour to reach full charging capacity.

While the battery and cartridges are the essential pieces to vaping, Optima also offers a full range of exciting and versatile e-cigarette accessories, which include different chargers, cases, and the exciting Hard Pack.

Safety & Exploding E-cigs

A short while ago, big news was made internationally when an electronic cigarette device exploding while in use. Even though all the facts were not initially laid out, and investigation had to be done, the incident left a lingering fear that e-cigarettes are potentially dangerous. However, this does not account for the millions of users who have had great success using e-cigs, with no explosive side effects. Here is a look at the situation in which the electronic smoking device exploded, and why this is a really unlikely turn of events for the vast majority of users. If e-smokes have got you wondering “…but aren’t they safe?” the answer is yes, they most certainly are, but as is the case with any electrical device, proper usage and attention to to warnings as well as the owner’s manual are paramount to optimal use, and most of all, safety.

When Tom Holloway of Niceville, Fl experienced his e-cigarette explode, in the process knocking out teeth, damaging his tongue, and causing severe burns, it was definitely not what he expected with tobacco’s “safer alternative.” And while it may seem easy to write off the product as faulty, it cannot be avoided that he was literally playing with fire, and unfortunately suffered the consequences. We are, however, immensely relieved and happy that he did not suffer any life threatening conditions as a result, and made it out alive.

The type of e-cig products he was using were not the standard, ready-made battery-and-cartridge styles, and entirely different in every way than the design structure of Optima Cigs’ products. He was using what is known as a “mod” and these products are basically sold in parts on the internet, with very little quality control, and then assembled by the consumer. Unfortunately Mr. Holloway chose to use a store-bought battery, larger and more powerful than the types sold with the pieces he initially purchased, and sadly suffered the horrendous consequences.

This wasn’t the first case of a modified e-cigarette product exploding either, and astoundingly more and more consumers need to be aware of the dangers of altering these devices. Reputable, responsible companies such as Optima Cigs take every precaution possible to ensure customer safety, and that products are used accordingly to manufacturer instructions. Optima’s batteries and e-cig accessories are of the highest standards, and are designed for supreme usage and safety. Quality is a very big deal in this industry, and with millions and millions of products sold, if used correctly electronic cigarettes, including our own, are ultimately very safe.

The Word is Out: E-Cigarettes Are the Smarter Choice

So much debate is out these days, on whether e-cigarettes are better than tobacco cigarettes, whether or not they should be used, which brands make the purest products, whether they are just a passing trend…

Well, every year since they hit the retail market in 2008 the sales have only increased, the technology has only gotten more and more advanced, and the prices have dropped significantly to where it is less expensive to smoke electronically than it is to use tobacco cigarettes! Even when purchasing an electronic cigarette starter kit, it costs far less. However, that is not the only plus to using them. They offer smokers a world of convenience, most importantly offering a smoke-free way to still get all the pleasure from nicotine. In the 2010 film, The Tourist, Johnny Depp’s character puffed on an e-cig, famously saying “It’s not a real cigarette – it’s electronic.” That brief clip immortalized the spreading popularity of electronic cigarettes, solidifying them especially with Hollywood.

Why are vapor cigarettes changing the way people smoke? Because they offer convenience, freedom, and benefits to the health in ways that cigarettes cannot. In asking users directly about their experiences, most have amazing stories to tell of, both how their lives have gotten better, as well as how they have been able to entirely switch from cigarettes. While e-cigarettes are not cessation devices, they most certainly are a phenomenal alternative to smoke and tobacco. Smoker’s coughs, sore throats, breathing capacity have all been improved, as reported by users. Tobacco smoke carries the harmful tar, and it accumulates on anything it gets constant exposure to. As it is infamous for doing, it builds up in the lungs. With E-cigs, this is nonexistent as there is no smoke, no tar, and the vapor they release contains nothing that will start to collect.

Perhaps one of the more ridiculous arguments is that electronic smokes, because they come in a variety of flavors, will entice children and youngsters to start using them. While this has always been the case with the tobacco industry, the e-cigarette industry does nothing to market to children, and all reputable companies in the market take this very seriously. The target market is also over the age of 40, and very much beyond the legal minimum age limit!

In terms of sales, smokeless cigarette products are expected to reach around 3.5 million users this year, even amidst claims that vapor may be harmful in the same way smoke is, and that without proper regulation you don’t really know what you are getting. So despite arguments and warnings, the success rate only climbs higher the more time passes. Electronic cigarettes are here to stay!
